Blackpowder, sixguns, leverguns, ...shooting cars, drinking targets....just another day in the Heart of Dixie. I'm a former (mounted) Confederate Cavlary reenactor and a student of Southern history. I still smell the campfire and the powder burning.
There will be be primers and caps struck. There will be lead sent downrange. There will be a periodic injection of politics with a Southern flavor sure to upset the delicate and the degenerate. ALL good folks of ALL nationalities, regions, colors, and creed are welcome and appreciated.
I acquired the nickname "Plowboy" back around 2000 when Cledus T. Judd put out a song with that title. It was my CB handle. Just as with most people in my hometown of Hackleburg, nicknames and handles become your name, even to people who knew you long before it's adoption.

good sight. ruger Blackhawks nice guns.
🤠🍻
Well done ! 👍 If somebody built a better revolver than Ruger I'd sure like to who ?
Rugers are great. BFRs are a little nicer, but they cost a good bit more, too.
I would love to see a video of you explaining how you aged the finish and how you filed the sight.
Not disagreeing with you by any means. However, while I was serving in the Army, I watched a soldier fire a 45 Colt out of a Taurus Judge from approximately 4 feet away at another soldier. The round entered the back of his neck and exited through the front. While this sounds far fetched, the soldier who was shot was back to work 2 weeks later with stitches and muscle relaxers. While I agree with everything you said in this video, without seeing it in person, that situation tainted my view on 45 Colt as an everyday carry option.
@@IsaacJWhitehair Depending on the bullet, most handgun cartridges could have done the same.
@@plowboysghost Good to know. I'm somewhat new into revolvers and the calibers that come with them. Pretty drawn to .357 overall just due to the ammunition abundance.
There’s a reason professional guides in Africa carry 500 nitro express double rifles! Yea, 2 shots because they are going to brain shot that charging animal! Now granted they carry their balls in a wheelbarrow but they know what works!
I roam around Elmer Keith territory.
@@aaronwilcox6417 id like to move out there
Would you show the leather under the mainspring "trick" and how to do it? Thanks!
"But, the 9mm is just as good as the 44 Magnum!" It will blow a lung right out of the body... the stupidest man in the world said so!!!
Great find! The Six series are great revolvers.
I think a man could file down the wings on both sides of the sight. Not quite like a flattop but better than those Blackhawk bumps.
I won't.
Great video, really enjoyed it. 45 Colt is my favorite pistol caliber.
@@mcekim2 Thank you.
Those sights start becoming real important to those older eyes. Just like adding color to the front, it all help. Know I appreciate such enhancements. Thanks mr. plowboysghost.
@@redesert_boy8202 You're right about that! Thank you, sir 🍻
@@plowboysghost Just read your comment on the Lipsey’s .41 Mag release video. You know you will have to get that Flattop just to see how fast you can get a 250gr Semi-Wadcutter or WFN to go out of that medium frame. Or maybe it’s time for a plowboysghost original mold cast bullet that fits in what is it 1.650 cylinder medium frame at 1300+ fps. Just sayin’. Or maybe the saying should be, “it’s all about the right meplat” lol. Be safe and well sir.
@redesert_boy8202 My local dealer has one of them.
It's amazing what a little paint can do.
I have thought about ordering one of those for a 3 screw I have. I really like the Bowen sights I have, but they sure are pricey.
They sure are. These aren't exactly drop in, though....just a heads up.
Thanks for the heads up. I enjoy fiddling around with stuff like this in my free time.
I personally think it looks better than the factory site and will certainly be pickup easier by your ageing eyes! At 76 ask me how I know. And no, you are not a hoarder, you are an accumulator, again, ask me how I know.
😁🍻
That sight looks great on that Ruger
Thank you.
I put on Bowens rough country rear sights on a couple custom Blackhawks. Great sights but pricey. If you use your revolvers they're worth it.
🤠🍻
I just saw some Ruger sights made by R W Grip Frames that are truly a few steps up. It used the Ruger's existing rear sight to mount a heavy duty sight.
Those are Fermin Garza's sights, I believe. It's the replacement leaf I mentioned. I may end up with that, myself .
You won't regret a 41 bisley!
I don't like it. Too much open gap in relation to the front ramp.
It doesn't look like that in person. The front sight fills the notch a lot more to my eyes
Taking into account that the sight radius has been increased, it's some fine carport gunsmithing.
😁🍻
Well done plowboy! Thanks for sharing this with us! Looking forward for more content, and sharing! 🍻🥃🎯💯🫡🤝
@@StevenRoberts-m8v Thank you
Very nice!. I use One Ragged Hole sights on my Blackhawks. Aperature on the rear and I put a spot of white on the tip of the blade. Don't see a way to post a pic here. Recommend you try it when you have nothing to do. $30
@@drmcf1 I've seen them online and I like peep sights
Looks amazing brother! Much better sight picture. I'd love to see a video of your thoughts on big bore revolver cartridges (short cylinder) I watched your video on the BFR 500 JRH and would love to hear more from you about rounds like 475 linebaugh, 500 linebaugh, 480, 500 Wyoming Express, 454 casull, etc. Recently I've become enamored with these traditional revolver typed big bore rounds that don't push into the mega sized cylinders like the 500 magnum or bfr's rifle rounds. And no one talks bullets like Plowboy. That would be an awesome video if you ever felt so inclined. Thanks!
@@d.b.hemlock My experience with the over .45 cals are limited to.480 Ruger and .500 JRH . Thanks🍻
@@plowboysghost appreciate it brother!
Even through the camera I can see that's a very nice sight picture.👍
@@KevinSmith-yh6tl It's certainly better than stock.
That sight is going to really come in handy, if you decide to go Deer Hunting with using the Iron Sights alone or if you cross paths with a Bear for that matter.
@@reesex3882 Or a beer can that looks at me wrong 😁
I bet you bought a 41 Special and you're gonna cut some 41 Magnum cases to reload.
@@RickNethery Nope...it was the .500 JRH BFR.
I was actually looking at replacement sights for my blackhawk today. So glad you posted this video. I couldn't type in the CC numbers fast enough. Like $34 with shipping, seems like a no brainer.
@@ericbrabham3640 Bear in mind that's not a purely drop in swap and that the front sight may be short for this rear sight. I have some shooting to do to see what's what
@@plowboysghost Yeah I own a dremel and some files. lol. I will look it over and hopefully figure it out. I would be willing to change front sight if needed. The view down the sights of yours looks like the view down the sights of a 1911 with ledge sights. That would be the cats meow for me. I'll keep posted and see what else you have to do.
Looks nice and beefy. Like you said, it’s not a SAA clone so it’s not detracting from it. I imagine the sight picture is really nice in person.
@@gunsmackamigos1159 It's definitely better than the original rear sight🍻
Looks good! Great modification!
@@marcthomas2482 Thank you.
I've owned mainly stainless steel guns in my life. How often do you oil up your blued guns to keep them from rusting?
@@Mexfederate5050 I wipe off fingerprints before I put them up once a week or two. If I don't carry them, then far less often.
I really like the lpa sights on the tanfoglio pistols
@@tbjtbj4786 👍
That looks like the match grade sight on the pistols.
These old eyes are getting to the point I have been considering a red dot (gasp 🫣) I have a mount on the way for my Taurus 692, and have been considering the same for my new model Flattop. I just don’t shooting often enough to where I “gotta have it.” More often than not it’s point shooting with it anyway. Idk, might just be getting to the age I need to look into glasses 😳. The joys of aging!

One of the lpa i have on a pistol has been on for 20 years all over flswaps in boats and hunting in fl ga and al. And just might have been used as a inpact once.
I personally replace every rear sight on my Ruger’s with the Tough Country sights. Nothing better!

Definitely better than the stock blade. The older I get the harder it is to see those Ruger adjustable sights.

Looks like an good upgrade in sight picture. I have a set of Mepro on an S&W 629 and theyre much more visible. I had Bowen custom Bisley revolvers in the past with their sights and liked them well enough but would image theyre a bit more costly. Too bad these outfits just cant have excellent sights from the factory. Even if they had to charge another $50 it would be money well spent

All my Blackhawks have super hammers I love them
@@lelandogle9523 I've considered putting SBH hammers on mine.
Wish I could find one, think they’ve been out of stock at midway and brownells for the past 2 years at least. I guess there’s always eBay….
I have all my 45 Colts have their cylinders set to .4525, and the forcing cone angle changed 11 degrees and polished. My local gun smith charges me $35 a gun to do it. Not as cheap as what you were able to get done but not super expensive either.
.357
6 years ago Paul Harrell did a video called "Personal Protection: Cap and Ball Revolvers" and showed that even those can still be relevant for self defense. Here in Montana we see this tacticool syndrome quite a bit with people coming to hunt deer and elk. Their weapons keep getting bigger and so far as I have seen our deer and elk aren't eating Kevlar and growing bullet resistant hides, I could be wrong but so far my 358 win knocks them just as dead as it did in 1955 when it came out. Same for handguns, I carry a double action redhawk in 45 Colt here on my ranch and it is loaded with 325 grain hard cast bullets going 1180 fps, it will end to end a charging grizzly. I have never felt under gunned when carrying it or the single action blackhawk in 45 Colt with the same load. Even these old school revolvers are still very relevant to this day for me anyway.
Been hearing a lot about the .41-magnum revolvers from long time revolver fans. Even a few older shooters at some of the shooting ranges I go to. Many talk about a lower powder loading that's closer to a .41-spl for ease of shooting. Interesting to hear about all the experiences. However, when it's about revolvers. I'm sticking to the tried and true .38-spl or a .357-mag. An absolute S&W fan here.
They offer those Piettas in 357 so they should and have handled 45 colt full house loads
